August 1, 2012–Hours before we left home, a friend from Idaho called to tell us a mutual friend was in ICU on ventilator and feeding tube. Because none of us are technically “family,” she couldn’t get more information. By the time we arrived, “Prem” was off the ventilator, semi-conscious from the combination of illness and medication, and able to have visitors. He seemed to know we were there. The following day he was lucid, moved to the “step-down” unit, and able to reminisce with us about the years we worked in the same health facility. We left Idaho knowing Prem would recover—and we hope take better care of himself to avoid future crises. These were people we met when we first moved there, good friends when we were going through hard times. We were blessed to have them enter our lives. Sometimes, without our plan or intention, we find ourselves where we are needed at the right time. God’s time.
