Sierra Snow

Sierra Snow

April, 2016:  We drove on U.S. 395 along the high Sierra Mountains for the first time about 20 years ago. Skus chose our camp site where we would wake up when the sun rose over the mountains on the other side of Owens Valley and highlight the snow-covered peaks.

This year we drove into Lone Pine in an afternoon shower with a curtain of dark cloud pouring over Mt. Whitney and surrounding peaksDSCN1077 - Copy.
We camped at Portagee Joe, thankful to be out of the shower. The downpour we expected didn’t arrive. Instead, the moon rose, lighting up scattered clouds. We enjoyed the night sky with moon-lit white clouds and stars in the dark spaces.

In the morning, sunshine sparkled on new snow all along the Sierra peaks.
